Meet Christopher Byrdo, 11 Grader

Every day, Christopher volunteers to help Lee Lee Logan, our Kitchen Manager, clean up the lunchroom. We are grateful for his servant’s heart and helpful attitude!

What was hard to adjust to when you first came to DSA?
The grading scale here, and Bible and computer class.

How has Bible class helped your relationship with God?
When you’re in the classroom learning about God, you’re hearing the Word and understanding it. You and God are connecting.

What is DSA teaching you that’s different from other schools? How to be a young man and a responsible person. You actually learn from your mistakes here.

Advice you’d give a 7th grader: Watch your attitude. Be responsible. Be at class on time – not a minute late. Do your homework and pay attention.

Meet Robin Howard and Tonia Ray, Open Date Classic Coordinators.
The ODC would not be possible without the tireless effort of these two amazing volunteers!

"Delta Streets Academy started with a prayer and a strong belief in Jesus. T. Mac began his journey by telling his daddy and me he was quitting his teaching job to start an after-school ministry of helping kids with homework and a lot of Jesus.

DSA opened its doors in 2012 at First Baptist Church. On Friday the boys cleaned and put away the school in closets. Then on Sunday nights, T. Mac and usually Mischa McCray pulled everything out for Monday morning. The time came for DSA to move to its own campus, the old used car lot, which was worked on by so many volunteers. Yes, there were struggles and more prayer. Like when the roof of the first gymnasium on Highway 82 caved in from a highly unusual ice storm. At first T. Mac was heartbroken and hated calling the Texas donor to explain what had happened. But this donor asked what it would take to build a gymnasium on campus, and yet another prayer was answered. Then money was available to start renovating the “blue building “for classrooms, kitchen, and offices. As you read this, I hope you can see the hand of God growing Christians. T. Mac did not build and grow Delta Streets, God built and watched it flourish with students, amazing staff, and volunteers from all over the U.S." -Robin Howard

"The fact that the young men at Delta Streets Academy can get a quality education and daily Godly leadership is remarkable. I really appreciate the guidelines that students are required to follow and that they must take responsibility for their actions when those rules are broken. I believe DSA is developing strong, Christ-like leaders for the community and state. Our world desperately needs God-honoring leaders.

Over the last five or so years, I've seen the school change in many ways. The structure of the building has expanded, enrollment has grown, and the number of graduates and staff has grown. And we feel strongly that some of that growth is due to the efforts for Open Date Classic. So many long-time friends of the Howard family rally to make things happen, and each year new people are invited to attend, people who knew nothing about the school before.

I've heard story after story of how the Lord has provided for DSA with blatant signs of His presence. Those stories have brought tears to my eyes, made the hair stand up on my arms and soothed my heart, over and over again. It is truly my honor and privilege to be involved in this tiny way with the school. Glory to God for all He has done and continues to do at Delta Streets." -Tonia Ray
Robin Howard was recognized as Volunteer of the Decade!
Last Thursday and Friday, we had an amazing turnout for the Open Date Classic in the Jackson-Metro area. From amazing weather at golf to great food and fellowship at the drawdown to the biggest turnout of teams for the sporting clay event, this year's event was our most attended yet in Jackson! We want to thank our sponsors for their generosity, knowing our school is not in the same area as their business. Most of our Title and Platinum sponsors have sponsored since our very first event.

Being from the metro area, I am always encouraged to see some familiar faces who have a heart for DSA's mission. There were guys I graduated high school with golfing and shooting, families at the drawdown I've known from church since the early 80's, and event regulars who I first met at a previous Open Date Classic! The event would not happen without the volunteers who do all the behind-the-scenes work. Without the volunteers, we would not put this event on!

Drawdown Winners: Dick & Jennifer Hall
