Favorite thing about basketball? My favorite part is going out there, working hard and trying to get the win.
What do you like about Coach Holland? He works us real hard and has made me better. Now I'm working harder and trying my best for the team.
Describe your first year at DSA so far. When I started, I was both nervous and excited at the same time. I was nervous because I was meeting new people, but I was excited because I heard this school was fun.
Favorite class? Social studies because they put fun into teaching it.

List some accomplishments from the JV season. JV was 11-9 for the year. We were 3-5 in district play but won the end of the year district tournament!
How have you seen your team (JV & Varsity) improve from last season? The players have worked really hard, and we have improved in both JV and Varsity. I think that there has been a little bit more buy into the culture that we are trying to establish.
What's next for Varsity? We were runner ups in the district tournament. We play Canton this week in the North State tournament to hopefully go on to the state tournament.
How do you believe sports gives the opportunity to relate to your students? I think that building trust creates opportunities for kids to want to listen to you. Coaching these players gives me an opportunity to be in the same battle with them. We are on the same team fighting for the same cause. I think and hope that I have built trust with our athletes, and I think that that trust creates an environment where I can speak into the players' lives and talk about what it means to follow Jesus.

Since the fall of 2022, DSA has been fortunate to have a gymnasium which allows us to do so many more things than before. We use the gym every morning for PE for the elementary students, the varsity and junior varsity basketball teams use it daily for practice, and we just started using it for pee wee basketball with our 5th and 6th graders this year!
We also have been extremely fortunate to host a "city wide" basketball league for 3rd and 4th graders. It is free to the community and each year the league has grown which is fun. Each of our five teams have coaches who volunteer and do an amazing job with the boys. Two of our high school players help run the clocks on the Saturday mornings in January as well as the "win or go home" tournament on the first Saturday in February.
Our hope is that through playing basketball, the young men participating learn skills and life lessons that will help them be better employers, employees, husbands, fathers, and neighbors. And in that process, our hope is that God is glorified through the actions of their lives.
